The Chairperson of the ROC Athletes’ Commission, two-time Olympic champion in fencing Sofya Velikaya congratulated the athletes on being selected for the upcoming Winter Games and noted that the Olympic Games would be a grand celebration and a highlight in the career of each athlete.
“We at the Athletes’ Commission suggested that the ROC should organize this video call so that all athletes could have the opportunity to receive first-hand information and ask any questions of interest,” said Sofya Velikaya.
According to Sofya Velikaya, the 2022 Games will be held in difficult conditions so it is important to know and follow the rules presented in the Guidelines for the safe conduct of all competitions. Furthermore, Sofya Velikaya talked about her experience at the Tokyo Games.
During the meeting, representatives of the Russian Olympic Committee drew the attention of athletes to some important nuances. The Head of the Information Service, Press Secretary of the ROC Konstantin Vybornov spoke about the intricacies of interaction with the media. In turn, the Deputy Head of the ROC Legal Department Viktor Berezov touched upon the current restrictions on the use of state symbols and the key requirements of Rules 40 and 50 of the Olympic Charter.
The Chief Expert of the Group for Ensuring the Participation of the Olympic Delegation under the Main Directorate of the ROC Ilya Popov and the Head of the ROC International Relations Department Alexey Slautin took questions from members of the ROC Team regarding the anti-epidemiological rules in force in China.
Alexandra Tereykovskaya, a lawyer from the Legal Support Division for the Purity of Sports under the ROC Legal Department, spoke to the participants of the videoconference meeting about the rules of the IOC aimed at preventing illegal influence on the results of sports competitions.
The Chief Specialist of the Department of International Relations, Secretary of the ROC Athletes’ Commission Yekaterina Gorokhova recalled that elections to the IOC Athletes’ Commission would be held within the framework of the XXIV Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. Each athlete will be able to vote for two candidates at once. She also talked about proposals that the IOC had prepared specifically for Olympians as part of the Athlete365 program.
