  • Today, the ROC President Alexander Zhukov held working meetings with delegations of the national Olympic committees of Uzbekistan and Ethiopia. From the Russian side the meetings were also attended by the Director-General of the ROC Vladimir Sengleev, Head of the ROC International Relations Department Anna Malinina and her Assistant Alexei Slautin.

    The Uzbek delegation was represented by the President of the National Olympic Committee Umid Ahmedjanov, Director of the International Relations Department Bekzod Martemirov and Assistant to the NOC President Sardor Abdukhalikov.

    From the delegation of the Ethiopian NOC the meeting was attended by the President Ashebir Gallo, Secretary-General Tamrat Bain and the Executive Committee member, two-time Olympic champion in the women’s 10,000m Derartu Tulu, known in history as the first ever African athlete who won the Olympic gold medal.

    During the talks, the sides stressed their mutual interest in deepening cooperation in a number of areas, and discussed topical issues of the development of the Olympic movement in general.

    The main outcome of both meetings were Memorandums of cooperation. The agreements provide for the effective development of bilateral relations, in the field of preparation of athletes and coaches, invitation to various competitions, congresses, conferences, training seminars and courses. In addition, partner NOKs should help each other in solving such important problems as popularization and promotion of the fundamental principles and values of Olympism, observance of the Olympic Charter, protection of the rights of athletes, coaches and other professionals.
