The President of the Russian Olympic Committee Stanislav Pozdnyakov participated in a meeting of the interdepartmental commission on organization and holding in the territory of the Russian Federation of international sports competitions, approval of promising applications of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation on development of physical culture and sport under the chairmanship of the Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets.
The Commission supported a number of application for holding large sports competitions in Russia, including, the III European games which are planned for 2023.
Stanislav Pozdnyakov:
– The application for holding the next European games was filed by Kazan. The Russian Olympic Committee fully supports this decision and is ready to provide comprehensive support in promotion of the application. We will work in this direction with the Organizing Committee and the authorities of the region. Today Tatarstan has unique sports infrastructure not only for Russia, but also by international standards, and the capital of the Republic is ready to host any complex event, including the Olympic Games, and to ensure the highest level of the organization. This has already been demonstrated more than once in recent years.
The European Games are becoming a more significant event in the European Olympic Movement, and gain popularity. In fact, this is a complex Olympic competition, the second important on the continent. And its holding in Russia in 2023 can become additional advantage for our athletes, given that the European Games in a number of disciplines are selection to the Olympic Games – 2024, the support of fans is very important. And Kazan supporters are absolutely fabulous. So I consider today’s decision of the Commission is correct and important.
