  • The start of the Olympic Torch Relay of the Tokyo-2020 will take place on March 26 of the same year in Fukushima Prefecture in the North-East of the country, where in March 2011 due to the earthquake and tsunami an accident occurred at the nuclear power plant.

According to plan,  the Olympic Torch Relay will travel through the 47 prefectures of the Japanese archipelago for 121 days before the lighting of the Olympic cauldron during the XXXII Summer Olympic Games’ opening ceremony.

According to the organizers, the choice of Fukushima as the starting point of the Olympic flame relay will symbolize the revival of the areas affected by the tragedy of seven years ago, when about 16 thousand people were killed.
