  • Native and world weightlifting suffered a great loss. On April 6, at the age of 56, Soviet and Belarusian weightlifter, two-time Olympic champion Alexander Kurlovich passed away.

    Alexander Kurlovich is a two-time Olympic champion (1988 and 1992), four-time World Champion, two-time European Champion. During his career, he set 12 world records. Kurlovich was a member of the Belorussian National Olympic Committee Executive Committee, Vice President of the European Weightlifting Federation (EWF) and a member of the IWF Technical Committee. In 2006, the famous weightlifter was inducted into the IWF hall of fame.

    The Russian Olympic Committee expresses its deep condolences to the family and friends of Alexander Kurlovich, as well as to all admirers of his talent.
