As part of the 9th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum (SPBILF), the ROC President spoke at the discussion session “Development of UNESCO International Convention Against Doping in Sport: Current Challenges and Prospects”, during which the participants discussed further steps in the anti-doping sphere in order to ensure fair and transparent rules of interaction between states and representatives of the international Olympic movement in countering the use of prohibited substances.
Prior to the session, Stanislav Pozdnyakov visited the Lesgaft National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health, St. Petersburg. The rector of the University, Professor Vladimir Taymazov, conducted a brief tour of this university – one of the oldest in the country – and told him about its glorious traditions and the Olympic medals won by its graduates.
The parties also discussed topical issues and prospects for the development of Olympic and sports education in our country and combining the efforts of organisations to improve the system of sports training.
The head of the ROC also held a work meeting with President of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) Janez Kocijančič. During the conversation, the topics of strengthening ties and expanding cooperation between the two organisations, as well as the 2nd European Games starting in Minsk on June 21 were covered.
In the context of the Games, Janez Kocijančič confirmed that all Russian athletes, including track and field athletes, will be competing under the national flag in the status as fully-fledged members of the Russian Olympic team.
