Rio Olympic Games organizers are forced to seek a new location for water polo matches

Water polo matches of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games will not be held at the venue, where it was originally scheduled. According to the BBC broadcaster (UK), the Julio Delamare Aquatic Park, scheduled to host the water polo tournament will not be built on time, therefore the organizers are forced  to seek a new location for water polo matches.

Tokyo’s Olympic Stadium will be built without a retractable roof

The main Tokyo’s 2020 stadium in will not be equipped with a retractable roof and a part of the seats at the 80,000-capacity stadium will be temporary. Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee has made such a decision in order to cut costs. The new arena is to be put into operation by the Rugby World Cup to be held in Tokyo in 2019. The XXXII Summer Olympic Games will be held in the capital of Japan from July 24 to August 9, 2020.

Yoshiro Mori, President of the 2020 Olympic Games Organizing Committee: “Now I want to slow down”

President of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games Organizing Committee Yoshiro Mori intends to resign as President of the Japan Rugby Football Union. The 77-year-old Japanese politician who has recently been treated for lung cancer, told his colleagues from JRFU about his decision. Mori will resign as President of the Japan Rugby Football Union in order to concentrate on the work of the Organizing Committee.

GB national football team will not perform at the Rio Olympic Games

The Football Association (FA) has rejected the proposal to revive a joint team of the United Kingdom to participate in the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games and has withdrawn men’s and women’s teams’ applications for participation in the 2016 Game. Joint GB team has performed at the London Olympic Games, but according to the representatives of Football Associations, it was an  isolated case. Prior to this, a joint team had last taken part in the 1972 Games in Munich.

IOC Coordination Commission has summed up the visit to Pyeongchang

According to ATR news in the framework of its fourth visit to South Korea the IOC Coordination Commission visited Gangneung for the first time. During the 2018 Olympic Games Curling, Speed Skating, Ice Hockey, Short Track Speed Skating and Figure Skating competitions will take place there. Organizing Committee has made significant progress in preparing for the competitions and should continue to work at the same pace in order to meet its obligations.

IOC has signed a record Sponsorship Contract with Toyota

The International Olympic Committee has signed a record Sponsorship Contract with Toyota,  Japanese greatest Motor Corporation. According to its terms Toyota would become the sponsor of four Olympic Games – 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang, Korea, 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, as well as in 2022 and 2024 Olympic Games. According to the Around the Rings information portal, the value of the Contract  is equal to $835 million.

Mourning place to be erected in Rio Olympic Village to commemorate the victims of the Olympic Munich Massacre

Special place for athletes to mourn victims of the Olympic Munich Massacre will be set up in the Olympic Village at Rio 2016. At the inauguration of the mourning place next year, Thomas Bach promised the IOC will “remember all those who have lost their lives at the Olympic Games,” including the Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili, who was killed in a training accident on the eve of Vancouver 2010.

Two Olympic flames in Rio

According to ATR news website, Rio de Janeiro Olympic organizers are considering two Olympic flames burning simultaneously at two different venues. The current plan is for the Olympic cauldron to burn at the legendary Maracana stadium, where the opening and closing ceremonies will be held. But officials are now suggesting another flame could be lit at the Nilton Santos stadium where the   athletics events will take place.

IOC Commission has welcomed Rio de Janeiro’s preparations for the Olympic Games

As a result of the visit to Rio de Janeiro, the capital of the XXXI Olympic Summer Games, the IOC Coordination Commission has noted that significant progress had been made in constructing sports facilities, realizing the ticketing programme, teaching volunteers and establish the route of the Olympic Torch Relay.
