Almaty 2022 Organizing Committee showed its main assets to the IOC Evaluation Commission

The Organizing Committee of Almaty Olympic Winter Games 2022 candidate city considers compactness to be the main asset of their bid. It complies with one of the requirements of the Agenda 2020, adopted at the IOC Session in December. The presentation of the Almaty bid was shown  to the members of the IOC Evaluation Commission headed by ROC President Alexander Zhukov on Monday.

Skateboarding is seeking inclusion in the Olympic Programme

The International Skateboarding Federation intends to seek inclusion in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Programme. In December 2014 after the IOC had adopted Olympic Agenda-2020 Skateboarding received a chance to become Olympic sport. It should be noted that  IOC President  Thomas Bach talked about the inclusion of new sports in the Olympic Programme last weekend during his visit to Moscow.

The pace of the 2022 Olympic bid competition has increased after the two remaining members of the competition (Alma-Ata and Beijing) had submitted candidate applications. Benefit and cost-effectiveness of the Games were emphasized in the Bid Books of both cities, sent to the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Lausanne.

In Tokyo people mark 2,020 days before the start of the Olympic Games

Athletes of the Japanese team and several hundred young Tokyoites took part in the celebration of a symbolic date – 2,020 days before the start of the start of the Tokyo Olympic Games. It has coincided with the celebration of the Coming of Age Day in Japan. It is a Japanese holiday held annually on the second Monday of January. It is held in order to congratulate all those who have reached the age of majority (20 years old) over the past year.

All Rio 2016 venues will be built on time

According to the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paes, all Rio 2016 venues will be built in time. “In the beginning we had some difficulties, but then we gained momentum, thus there’s nothing to worry about now,” – said Paes. The International Olympic Committee was concerned about the deadline for the completion of  the venues due to the fact that construction of the stadiums for the 2014 Brazil World Cup caused many difficulties. At some venues, the final preparations were made during the tournament.

President of the Mexican Olympic Committee intends to launch a joint bid along with the USA to host the 2024 Olympic Games

Mexico will undertake a new attempt to lodge a bid to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is assumed that the Games will be hosted byTijuana and San Diego. At the General Assembly President of the Mexican Olympic Committee (COM) Carlos Padilla expressed the hope to hold talks with the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) in early 2015.

The mascots of the 2016 Games have been named Vinicius and Tom

The mascots of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic and Paralympic Games have been named Vinicius and Tom respectively. These names were picked by the citizens of Brazil through an internet vote, – reported the AFP French news agency. 600 day to go until the first ever South American Olympic Games opening ceremony. In Brazil, the athletes will compete for 306 sets of medals.

President of the Pyeongchang Organizing Committee for the Olympic Winter Games  Cho Yang-ho said that all competitions of the 2018 Winter Games will be held in the Republic of Korea as previously planned, downplaying reports that talks had taken place on switching sliding events to Japan, – TASS reported.
