The US will choose candidate to host the 2024 Olympics from among four cities

Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington have submitted their bids for 2024 Olympics to the United States Olympic Committee, – reports ATR news. Official presentations will be delivered on 16 December, and within two months the National Olympic Committee will decide on the city, with the Organizing Committee of which they will consider the feasibility of submitting a formal application  to host the 2024 Games.

Vanessa Mae is dissatisfied with a four-year disqualification

Famous violinist is appealing a four-year ban imposed for fixing giant slalom races. In this regard, Vanessa May has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, – the ATR news reports. It should be reminded that in Sochi Vanessa Mae raced for Thailand as Vanessa Vanakorn, using the last name of her Thai father. She finished last of 67 competitors in the two-run giant slalom.

Italian Swimmer Simone Sabbioni Best 2014 European Young Athlete

The hero of the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games – 18-year-old swimmer Simone Sabbioni, who collected a full set of medals in China – gold, silver and bronze, was recognized European Olympic Committees (EOC), the Best 2014 European Young Athlete. He received the Trophy from the hands of EOC President Patrick Hickey, during a Gala Dinner at the Heydar Aliyev Centre in Baku, at the end of the 43rd EOC General Assembly.

Doha wins vote to host 2019 World Athletics Championships

2019 Athletics World Championships will be held in Doha (Qatar). This was announced at the special conference in Monaco according to Doha had beaten off Barcelona (Spain) and the American city of Eugene  in the struggle for the right to host the championships. Doha earned 12 votes to Eugene’s nine and Barcelona’s six in the initial ballot before winning 15-12 over Eugene in the second vote.

International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) to introduce cameras

Potential winners at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games and this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow were denied gold medals by judging errors. Disputes have also occurred at the recent Asian Games. International Weightlifting Federation will use three cameras, positioned to give views from the judges’ line of sight, and when video evidence is needed, it will be used quickly. Video technology will be used from next year and will debut at the Youth World Championships in Lima, Peru, in April 2015.

In November the Rio 2016 mascot will be unveiled

Rio 2016 is set to unveil its mascot next month, it has been revealed, the most important moment so far of a merchandise programme that is aiming to raise BRL1 billion ($420 million). The official mascot of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, Fuleco the Armadillo, failed to generate much interest and was even burned by demonstrators in protest against the championship, according to the Insidethegames portal.

Riga became the capital of Fair Play for a few days

From 9 to 11 October in the capital of Latvia the 20th anniversary Congress was held, and right after the Congress the European Fair Play Movement General Assembly took place. This movement originated two decades ago. Slowly but surely it was gaining popularity and increasing its membership. The award for those who have shown the spirit of sportsmanship became annual. Russia joined the movement in 1995.

Olympic Summit gives full support to Olympic Agenda 2020

Leading representatives of the Olympic Movement met on July 19 in Lausanne, with the Olympic Agenda 2020 process central to their discussions. Sports leaders heard updates on the proposals that have so far been generated on Olympic Agenda 2020, the strategic roadmap for the future of the Olympic Movement, which is scheduled for further consideration and final approval at the Extraordinary IOC Session in December.

Alexander Zhukov attended the Olympic Summit in Lausanne

The third Olympic Summit attended by the most influential representatives of the Olympic Movement was held on Saturday at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. President of the Russian Olympic Committee, IOC member Alexander Zhukov was among the 16 people invited to take part in the Summit.

IOC will improve the 2016 Olympic Games ticket system

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is planning to improve the ticket selling system for the 2016 Olympic Games to be held in Brazil. On Wednesday, the IOC presented the results of its research on the Sochi Olympic Games broadcasting. According to the data presented, the indicators increased significantly compared to the Olympic Games held in Vancouver 4 years ago.
