Rodion Plitukhin, Secretary General of the Russian Olympic Committee, held a working meeting with Mohamed Elserghani, Cultural Attache of the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in the Russian Federation.
Both parties engaged in discussions covering various aspects of humanitarian cooperation between the two nations, with a particular focus on advancing collaboration within the realm of high-performance sports.
Specifically, it was highlighted that Egyptian athletes consistently participate in a range of sporting events held within the Russian Federation, with the backing and support of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). Among the notable large-scale projects are international karate competitions like “Moscow – Karate Universe” and the second edition of the International Sports Festival of Extreme Sports, known as Grand Skate Tour, which occurred last year.
Furthermore, several other events are lined up for the remainder of the year, where the participation of Egyptian athletes is anticipated.
Fruitful cooperation is also developing within the sports gymnastics federations. Ehab Amin Esawi, President of the Egyptian Gymnastics Federation, was elected head of the African Gymnastics Union last year. The Russian side consistently lends ongoing support to the development of gymnastics in Africa. Most of the top gymnasts from this continent have had the opportunity to study and train in Russia in the past.
Rodion Plitukhin spoke about traditional events of the Russian Olympic Committee and its partners in which Egyptian athletes could participate. These are the International Forum of Young Olympians, the Expanded Meeting of the ROC Athletes’ Commission, the Children of Asia International Sports Games, and opportunities for advanced training at the Russian International Olympic University.
The participants of the meeting agreed to establish direct contacts between the ROC and the Egyptian NOC in order to further build effective cooperation for the benefit of sports development and promotion of true Olympic values on the territory of the two countries.
