The 9th International Sports Forum “Russia — Country of Sports” is being held in Kazan from 8 to 10 September.
The President of the Russian Olympic Committee Stanislav Pozdnyakov spoke at the plenary session “Sport-2030: The Path to Sustainable Development In New Conditions.”
The ROC President began his speech with words of gratitude to the international sports federations, some of whose leaders were present in the hall, for the fact that the athletes were able to fully realize their Olympic dreams in Tokyo.
Speaking about the ROC Team’s preparation for the 2020 Games, Stanislav Pozdnyakov noted that the pandemic had made significant adjustments to the training process.
— Many of our federations were forced to relocate the final training camps of their teams from Japan to the Far East. But this, in my opinion, did not disrupt the training process. It actually gave our athletes a certain advantage over their rivals in terms of climatic and geographical adaptation. Nothing can be taken for granted in the world of sport. The opportunity to use the sports infrastructure of the Far East and train in a time zone close to that of Tokyo was quite effective.
The head of the ROC focused the attention of his colleagues on the further modernization of the Far Eastern training bases and the construction of new sports centers in the region for the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane.
— Australia and the Russian Far East have a common time zone. Why don’t we use the good experience of preparing for Tokyo 2020 to get ready for the 2032 Games? At these sports facilities, it would subsequently be possible to prepare for other international competitions, as well as invite our partners from other countries to the training camps, — stressed Stanislav Pozdnyakov.
In conclusion, the ROC President noted that the results of Russian athletes in Tokyo and the strong support that was provided to the Olympic team by fans and the media, allowed to draw an unambiguous conclusion: Russia today is indeed a great sports power.
The Plenary session was also attended by Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, First Vice President of the ROC Igor Levitin, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko, Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin, President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Chairman of the International Anti-Doping Convention Marcos Diaz, President of the International Swimming Federation Husain Al-Musallam, President of the International Ice Hockey Federation René Fasel, IOC Honorary Member Julio Maglione, and other sports leaders.
