About two million people take part in it every year. This year, the celebrations were timed to coincide with the 5th anniversary of the 2014 Games in Sochi and the anniversary of the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.

Director General of Gazprom-Media Holding JSC, Chairman of the Board, President of KHL LLC and President of the ANO Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko:

    Dear friends!

Congratulations to you on Winter Sports Day! Thanks to this holiday, we have a wonderful tradition that unites athletes and sports enthusiasts all over Russia. It is especially important that this day presents the opportunity to express respect to our professional athletes and to note the significance of their victories.

This common holiday increases interest in sports and healthy lifestyles among Russians, especially with the future generation. We must agree that this is a very important task.

Many athletes and fans on this day remember the Winter Olympics in Sochi with special warmth and I am no exception. The organizers of the Games organized an unforgettable celebration for athletes, fans and spectators in all countries.

Dear athletes and Olympic winners! Your bright sports victories have entered into the history of domestic and world sports. And now they serve as an example and inspiration for the younger generation.

I want to thank all the organizers of the Winter Sports Day for this important mission to promote sports, a healthy lifestyle and preserve the traditions of Olympism.

    Together we can win!
